Yes, you can still have the vaccination against HPV, Gardasil, if you're sexually active. However, you should note:
- The protection offered by the vaccine is incomplete. There are about 15 types of HPV can cause cervical cancer. Gardasil is designed to protect against these two guys who are responsible for 70 percent of all cases of cervical cancer, too. The vaccine may not protect women against 30 percent of cancers of the cervix by other high-risk HPV types are caused.
- The vaccine may not protect everyone. HPV is the skin contact through intimate (sexual transmitted). To be fully effective, current research suggests that the vaccine should be administered before girls become sexually active. To get vaccinated in other words, the perfect time in adolescence. (The FDA has the use of Gardasil for girls and young women, 9-26. But the agency also said that "women are not protected if they are infected with HIV [destination] type HPV before vaccination, reflecting the importance of Immunitytion from possible exposure to the virus - in other words, before having sex with a woman first.)
- There are many unknowns. For example, it is unclear whether a booster vaccine be necessary until later in life to ensure further.
